LabBiofilter

LabBiofilter is a tool for simulation of the microbial activity and nutrient turnover in recirculating aquaculture plants or in wastewater treatment plants, developed by leading microbiologists and computer scientists.

LabBiofiter is a flexible modelling tool for simulations of microbial biofilm activity and nutrient turnover in open or closed systems. LabBiofilm allows users to design models according to their own requirements.

Front panel of the LabBiofilter simulator. The components and flows between them are user defined.

Three basic model components are available

  • a tank (water reservoir, fish tank or similar)
  • a biofilm
  • a pipe (tube filled with sand, fluidized bed reactor).

Each component can be defined as aerobic or anaerobic. Furthermore, water flow between the components and in/out of the system as well as the flow of POC between the components are user defined.

LabBiofilter was developed by Professor Henry Blackburn.
