LabMicrobe overview

LabMicrobe for counting of bacteria by Acridine Orange-Epifluorescence Technique!

LabMicrobe is a specialized image analysis environment designed to fully automate the processing of images of microbes or cells. LabMicrobe has been optimized for efficient and consistent analysis of microscope images and acridine orange, and it is used for routine bacterial analysis by major research laboratories and environmental monitoring programs.

Features:

  • Integrated trainable neural network classifier
  • Interactive facilities for viewing results and setting parameters
  • Automatic analysis of multiple images (batch mode)

LabMicrobe is tuned to analyze epi-fluorescent images of bacteria, but its open architecture allows easy adaptation to other similar applications.

LabMicrobe has interactive facilities for viewing the results of the different stages of image processing, for setting parameters, and for training the internal neural network classifier. Classification of shapes is based on contour.

LabMicrobe can automatically handle a large number of images, and save the results on the computer. The programs work on 8 or 16 bit grey-scale images. More detailed general and technical information is given in Blackburn et al. 1998.
